Writers Q&A EP 403 The false bride

Happy Tuesday everyone! Answers to your #FalseBride questions are coming your way! #ATOW

Q. Where did you get those vintage Dairy Queen cups and wrappers?
A. The #Outlander Art department is the best!

Q. How did you film the storm? The rain looked so real.
A. It's one of the few times we’ve ever had to use a rain machine.

Q. Did @RikRankin have prior guitar/singing experience? Such a lovely song at the gathering!!
A. @RikRankin does know how to play, but he put in a lot of hard work for this scene. And we are biased -- but he was brilliant.

Q. Why did Claire’s boots zip?
A. She brought them from the future 😁.

Q. Were wood figures burned at gatherings & who made the decision to use a giant stag?
A. We chose the stag because it’s the emblem of the Frasers. We try to keep J&C alive even in scenes they aren’t in.

Q. Why wasn't there a Q&A after #DoNoHarm?
A. @mariadkennedy did an excellent one with @Outlander_STARZ . Unfortunately, we aren’t going to be able to do a Q&A every week this season. We’re hard at work on Season 5, and want to make sure that is our top priority. The show must go on!

Q. Why was it called the False bride?
A. The False Bride is the title of the song Roger sings. It is also a nod to his proposal, which didn’t quite go as planned.

Q. If Brianna left the festival, how is Roger getting to the airport? 😜😆😆
A. He took a taxi 😃

Q. I noticed this moment didn't make the cut. Will we get to see this as a deleted scene later?

A. Not sure yet. This one was cut for time, but it could still end up on the DVD.

Q. Was there any scene that caused the greatest disagreement (or rare unanimity😁) among the writers during the discussion? If so, what was it?
A. Yes, there are many disagreements in the writers' room. Just like the fans, every writer has their favorite scenes and wants them in the show.

Q. Was that a sketch of our own Diana Gabaldon on the bulletin board behind Bree and Roger at the Scottish festival’s portrait booth?
A. Nope, those are sketches of our lovely crew!

Q. Did the writers choose Roger's song or @bearmccreary? Also, scripts aren't given very far in advance, was @RikRankin given the songs (counting the guitar opening) to practice before the scripts were distributed?
A. The writers chose the song. When we know there will be a song in the script, we get it to the performer as soon as possible so they can begin learning it.

Q. Loved the episode with all the lines from the book. Not being critical but want to understand..what is the reasoning behind having some writers that have not read the books as well as some that have?
A. Every writer working on the show has read the book for the season we are working on -- it's required. Some have read further and some haven't. And some have read them all! We like to have a mix.

Q. Whose decision was it to change the Scottish Highland games to North Carolina instead of the Boston area, 150 miles away like in the book and why?
A. We liked that Brianna is walking the same ground J&C are walking in the 1700s. She wonders if Claire found Jamie, but little does she know, they are in the same place 200 years apart! There is also a Highland Games at Grandfather Mtn annually. It's the largest in the world!
